SarongGoddess  > Other > A Day in the Life of Vicki Skinner in Costa RIca
Sunday (Sept. 20) I met up with new buds Elena Ross, Diane Hunter & Iris for a spin at the FUNNEST THING in Sabana Park - riding a SEGWAY!!!!

First off, in the 5 years I've been coming to Costa Rica & living here - I'd NEVER actually gone INSIDE of Sabana Park!!

I'd seen SEGWAYs in Sarasota, FL & San Diego & had REALLY wanted to do them but in the States, they're often around $100 - out of my budget so when Chappell & her daughter Tammy gave us the opportunity to take a sample spin on the Segway I JUMPED on it in a heartbeat!!

I was AWESOME FUN for EVERYONE (over 8) on these eco-friendly electric scooters!!! & EASY!!! I was concerned since, as many of you know, I'm not to stable just walking - but it was a BREEZE!!!!

Sebastian was our Guide EXTRAORDINAIRE!! He spoke good English & was FUN!!!

It's the BEST (& laziest) way to see Sabana Park - Costa Rica's version of Central or Golden Gate Park that's had LOTS of improvements like a new Roller Skating Rink & the new Power Aide Jogging Trails plus all the other FUN in the park like Kite Flying, horseback riding, the mini-Zip Line/Canopy Tour (GREAT for someone unsure if they can handle it!!), the lake, LOTS of sports being played & picnicing & various other things happening (LOTS of concerts/events). In Feb. the Museo de Arte Costarricense should be re-opening!!

This is a TOTAL MUST CHECK OUT this TOTALLY FUN activity!! Get a group of friends/family together to do a Day in the Park!! (they have a picnic table right in front).

SPECIAL PRICING FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN CR (bring proof you live here like your Cedula or your passport showing you living here full time):
15 min. for 4,000-colones &
30 min. for 7,000-c
(ALL Discounted rates are CASH ONLY) (sorry for the last minute of this but we JUST threw this together!)

NON-LOCALS RATES (currently - subject to change): $69-April-Nov. for an hour

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

WHERE CAN WE FIND SEGWAY:
In Sabana Park - near the NORTH / EAST corner - behind the Museo de Arte Costarricense (formerly the air terminal) - look for the BIG statue of Leon Cortez - across the street from Banco Nacional. They're located behind those. Look for their Cream colored TENT & the FABULOUS Chappell and/or her daughter!!!

WHEN DO SEGWAY TOURS RUN: Currently just Sundays 9am-5pm (or until the rain comes. Lunch time tends to be the quietest time) but if you can get a group of at least 4 people (at the FULL rate), they can accommodate you!!!

AGE MINIMUM: 8 (ish) and 40 pounds (ish)

RESERVATIONS/MORE INFORMATION: Call Chappell at 2-232-4822 /http://SegwayCostaRica.com/ecotours / ecotours@SegwayCostaRica.com

SarongGoddess > 9/17/09 - WELCOME to the Rasur/Quizur/Be Peace Academy's (http://RasurFoundation.org) WELCOME RECEPTION at their location in Piedades de Santa Ana - sponsored by the City of Santa Ana!!!

I met many FASCINATING people from many different countries (they had 200 participants from 40 counties [I was invited because I had volunteered to host 2 gals - Kathy from Austin, TX & Liza from Puerto Rico] & lent them everything from 7 long tables, trash cans, my guest cell phone, phones & a bunch of other "stuff") & made some GOOD contacts at this WONDERFUL reception (the food was FABULOUS with MOUNDS of BIG shrimp even [there was even some left in the end!!] - provided by Catering provided by Jimmy T’s Provisions & Gourmet).

This was inaugurating the new space & was held before the Global Alliance for Ministries & Departments of Peace Summit's - "Building Bridges of Peace" Opening Ceremony (http://GASummit.org) at the Auditorio Nacional in the Museo de Niños/Children’s Museum in San Jose.

SarongGoddess > 9/17/09 - After Rasur's Welcome Reception, we headed over to the beautiful Auditorium at the Museo de Niños/Children’s Museum in San Jose for the OPENING CEREMONY of "Building Bridges of Peace" - the Global Alliance for Ministries & Departments of Peace Summit (http://GASummit.org) where Costa Rica President & Noble Peace Prize Winner - Oscar Arias spoke & we even had one of the cuties in Editus play & shared with us 2 of their best students from their music academy (hear the videos below). (we left after 45 min. as it was heavy with statistics & quotes from others which I'm not into [I'm like a "But what are YOUR thoughts" kinda gal!!]).
