  • Ahhh - life in Costa Rica!

Do you have bats hanging around your place (especially in corners, by doors & just on the exterior of your house in general - especially if there's light around it) "doing their thing" (going caca•pooping•shitting•feces) down your wall which is hard to get rid of???

BB ("Buff Boy") - one of the workers where I used to live, rigged up this concept which REALLY WORKED with a BIG problem I was having with LOTS of bats pooping•shitting•feces•caca on the walls = especially because their caca is SOOO HARD to get off the walls (and when you do it will chip off your paint)

• Take 2 CD's

• String them next to each other with the shiny side forward & wrap around 2 nails & vwala - they go AWAY!!!

(I don't get why - but it works!!)

Because the cd's could keep moving - especially in wind - you might want to put another nail in the middle or drill a hole in each cd so you could tie that string through it.

Here are some links to clean it up:

  • I had this created by one of the workers where I used to live - BB. This design can have multi-purposes! I used it as a bird/squirrel feeder (hours of entertainment!) & I attempted to grow herbs & lettuce (though it was a times a challenge with the squirrels & birds wanting some). & you can also grow flowers & all sorts of stuff (all depending on how big the bamboo is).

You can also get vine-y things like beans which will also create a privacy barrier!!

Another trick I learned is instead of putting rocks at the bottom of the dirt (to help with drainage), break up a bunch of styrofoam things (to-go boxes, coffee cups+)!! (best not to do it with food related things if you're concerned with being organic, etc.)

You can hang this from a roof or ceiling or hang it from a wall. If you drill holes in the bottom for drainage, you'll need to put it outside. If not, you can put this inside.

  • OMGoddess! TOTALLY COOL!! Something to do with those coconut husks (I don't get their system but it's the basic idea of another source to grow things in that doesn't cost anything!! You could do that with the bamboo hanging concept thing also - using that as the base!! We do NOT have to use big plastic things!! We have SOOO MANY tools available to us right under our noses (ESPECIALLY in CR)!
