These are pictures from my favorite little Pueblo/village - San Antonio de ESCAZU - UP UP UP the mountains above San Rafael de Escazu (the flatland) & Centro Escazu! I lived there for 6 months in a SWEET little 1-bedroom Cabina/Cottage on the grounds of http://HotelPicoBlanco.com & LOVED IT!! The whole mountain region is theoretically called “San Antonio” but these pictures are mainly from the most Easterly mountain – where the main church, soccer field, one of my FAV MY FAVORITE “Mirador” (a restaurant with INCREDIBLE VIEWS) – Hotel Pico Blanco – http://HotelPicoBlanco.com (MY FAV thing on the menu are the JUICY barbeque pork ribs/castillos or the steak [with REALLY GOOD homemade mashed potatoes and a tasty salad]. Trust me – stick with the red meat or chicken!). The view of the WHOLE Central Valley below from the restaurants, bar & from ALL the rooms in the hotel is AWESOME!!!! MY FAV are the $60/n rooms with a HUGE picture window of the gold dust (lights) below but even their $40/n rooms have their own private balcony!!!!! (make sure whether you go to the restaurant or hotel to tell EVERYONE that Vicki Connected you!!!). The main part of the “Pueblo”/village is only about 4 blocks long FYI – the next mountain over (West) is where you’ll find Tara (formerly known as the White House), Grand Tara Hotel (aka White House - The Grand View (2-288-6362 / http://GrandTaraHotel.com / https://Facebook.com/The.Grand.Tara) - NEW OWNERS!! They have VERY GOOD QUALITY ANGUS Beef (all be it $$$$$!!) & the restaurant is quite $$$$$ overall but you have AWESOME VIEWS of the WHOLE Central Valley & they’ve “cleaned the place up!” They brought back $19 PRIME RIB on Fridays (it only comes with a baked potato & chances are GOOD you’ll buy LOTS more but I hear it’s REALLY TASTY!!). They have CRÈME BRULLE sometimes. RESTAURANT HOURS: 7am-11pm. Next West - you’ll find TIQUICIA Restaurant (a GREAT Mirador which has national dancing on most Thursday nights (sometimes other nights if there are groups & at least on Thursday – they pull people out of the audience to dance with them!! FUN!!! This is one of the most popular nights so get there early. The show starts AROUND 8:30pm-ish [and I DO mean “ish”]). TIQUICIA http://MiradorTiquicia.com / 2-289-5839 / 8-828-1280 / TiquiciaCR@CostaRicense.cr ) Located WAYYYYY up in the hills of San Antonio Escazu with AMAZING VIEWS of the whole Central Valley!! Really tasty traditional Costa Rican food. FOLKLORIC DANCERS SHOWS THURS. 8:30-9pm-ISH (no additional charge – just order off the menu). I was there May ’12 and noticed prices had gone up a LOT but one can get a bunch of Bocas/appetizers like we did and we had PLENTY!!! The cheapest entrée was around $15 and Filet Mignon is now $23. Casado’s (rice, beans, salad with either beef or chicken) - $13-$15. I LOVE their Fried Yucca Balls ($5) & Chicharrones were perfectly tender!! On show nights you can do their Tipico Buffet for $24 which includes 2 natural drinks). They have a LOUNGE (so you can just go up for a view) with LIVE MUSIC (Guitar) on Friday and Saturday around 9pm. If you don’t speak only English – ask for Alcides & tell him Vicki sent HOURS: Tues.-Sat. noon-midnight. Sun. 12:30-9pm LOCATION: San Antonio de ESCAZU - Tiquicia is WAYYYYYYY up a STEEP hill & MANY cars/taxi’s can NOT make it so make sure you tell your driver you’re going there (or just pay to have the taxi wait for you)!!! When I have the time, I'll be adding details/descriptions for each of the businesses soon. But first - I SERIOUSLY WELCOME you to visit this little pueblo that has one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL pieces of art I've EVER seen!! It's a ONE BLOCK LONG HAND CARVED tribute to the boyero (farmer/oxcart) that ONE man created!! I SOOOOO can FEEL his PASSION when I look at this!! I STILL am moved by it!!!! It's located DIRECTLY across the street from the entrance to the church - where the soccer field is. It's hidden from the street - it just looks like a long wall (across from Cerros Italian Pizzaria) - but down below - overlooking the WHOLE Central Valley, is this MASTER PIECE!!! More details coming on it soon!!! .
