N Rivas - Hilmor - Rivas (city), Nicaragua
HOSPEDAJE HILMOR
ULTRA CHEAP PLACE TO STAY & a GREAT BASE - RIVAS (city) - Need an ULTRA BASIC - ULTRA CONVENIENT place to crash before/after a Visa Run to Costa Rica? Missed the last ferry to ISLA OMETEPE island or need to catch one of the early buses to Costa Rica? To late to make it cheaply to SAN JUAN DEL SUR? Rivas is the closest city to all these & more!!
AWESOME LOCATION - the Hilmor is just 5 blocks from the International Bus stops that connect Nicaragua between Mexico & Panama, 7 blocks from the main Bus Terminal with buses taking you to LOTS of areas (San Juan del Sur, Tola, Granada & LOTS more). The Managua Express•Expreso bus literally picks up/drops off literally in front of the Hilmor's door.
It's also just behind the main church - Iglesias San Pedro (NO ringing bells!), 1+ block from the park & places to eat, 2+ blocks to banks, grocery stores, a big 8+ block open air Central Mercado, some of the cheapest pharmacies in Latin America, DHL, Western Union, ultra cheap doctors & dentists & LOTS more.
The people of Rivas are VERY NICE & Rivas is a VERY walkable town & I feel VERY safe wandering around even at night when I'm feeding the street dogs.
PROPERTY:
All 15 rooms are PRIVATE (note in busy season, they may do a couple of the ultra basic rooms as a hostel where you're bunking with other people) & have at least a fan*. Most rooms have 1-2 Twin•"Individual" beds which are more like a massage bed frame but a bit wider with a mattress & I've found all that I've slept in to be quite comfy!!
COMMON AREAS:
I find most of Hospedaje Hilmor's clients are nationals - tending to be business people from Managua coming to work in Rivas at least during the week. Plus you have some guests visiting from around the world. The Common area•Lobby has tables & chairs so it's a great place to connect & get the REAL EXPERIENCE of being amongst Nicaraguan (I find Nicaraguans to be really SWEET, HONORABLE, HELPFUL & HAPPY people overall!!).
KITCHEN only as a 2 burners cooktop & ultra ultra basic supplies (no stove, NO microwave, NO toaster oven, NO blender - ultra ultra basic) & a Fridge. They've recently implementing a 10-codoba fee for each meal to use the gas stove.
WIFI - There is FREE WiFi in the front Common Area•Lobby & the 3 front ultra basic rooms & 1st room with private bathroom.
Great new management - The new family that's managing it is AWESOME!! Husband Adrian speaks English, his sweet, helpful, beautiful wife Luz Marina & their 7 year old daughter Lizum is such a beautiful joy to be around (& she even loves to help around the place!!). Glenda is the housekeeper.
RATES•ROOMS:
• Small Private Room with 1-2 twin beds (I find the mattresses very comfy), fan & shared bathroom. Note in the front 3 rooms there is no noise privacy as the walls did not go up all the way (bring earplugs if you're noise sensitive) though that was good as it gave it better air flow & wasn't claustrophobic like many rooms. But being closets to the front patio/street - some guests like to party out front till late hours - so not for early sleepers. RATES: 150-cordobas/each per person (just $5 with current U.S. $ value).
• Private Room with Private Bathroom, fan & basic cable tv (in Spanish). Most have a Double•Full•Matrimonial size bed plus a Twin•Individual bed. RATES: 300-c/$10 for 1 (based on 29 cordobas/$1). 500-c/$17ish-2 people. 100-c each additional person
Rate may vary - especially if they are busy & Christmas•New Years & Samana Santa•Easter is higher.

From the International Bus stops - go to the most Southern UNO Gas station & go West 2 blocks. Turn Left & it's on the North/East/Back corner of the main church - Iglesia San Pedro - the main church (I've never heard bells). A "Pipano" (bicycle "taxi") should only be 20-cordobas or $1 for 1 person (they MAY charge you 30 cords if you have lots of luggage or 2 people [the guys right as you get off often try to "Gringo-rate" you so I just cross the street & get one there]).

North/East/Back corner of the main church - Iglesia San Pedro - the main church (don't worry - the bells do NOT go off at all hours/at all).

GETTING TO SAN JUAN DEL SUR FROM RIVAS:
BUS - PRICE: 20-cordobas/70¢-US$. 1 hour Bus ride from the main Bus Terminal. HOURS: the last bus leaves SJDS at 5pm
TAXI - COLLECTIVO - PRICE: 50-cordobas/$2ish. HOURS - from around 7am-6pm (a Collectivo Taxi is a shared taxi that usually needs 4 people to go)
TAXI - PRIVATE - PRICE: $15+ (evening it's whatever they want to charge - between $20-$30)
