Dogs - Macha the sweet dog in Rivas, Nicaragua desperately needs surgery
MACHA NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Macha is a SPECIAL street dog I met & temporarily "adopted" in June 2015 in Rivas (city), Nicaragua when I came for a visit for 6 weeks. I named her "Macha" & it was amazing how fast she responded to it.
First thing I did when I met her was take her to the local vet (who has all sorts of medicine for LOTS CHEAPER than in Costa Rica but he DID Gringo Price me) to get her medicine to get rid of ALL the ticks she was covered with. HUGE fat blood sucking ticks. Every day I was there (for 6 weeks) I'd bring her raw meat &/or bones 2-3 times a day (I actually bought a bunch of kibble type food & walked around the streets to feed the dogs - but most of them wouldn't eat it!!
3+ times a day I'd stop by & give her massages (she REALLY LOVE getting Vicki Massages & being touched [as a Pet Sitter the fur babies I watch get 2-10 a DAY - more if they're allowed up on the bed with me!!!] I don't think she's ever had any more human contact other than maybe a few pats on the head).
But she DOES LOVE LOVE LOVE her independence!! When I would ride past her in the park & call her name from the Pepana (bike taxi), she would run along side us ALL over town running errands for like 20 minutes & she'd sit there as I'd transfer to a taxi or bus to leave - looking so sad (& it SOOO tugged at my heart!)!! Or if I was walking she was right there by my side.
I'd get to the park (where she hangs out though lately more after 4-5pm - usually in front of the older short apple guy just west of the middle) & call out her name - "MACHA!!!" & people would point out where she was (they were probably thinking "There's that crazy gringa!!") & she'd come RUNNING towards me & jump up & immediately roll on her back for a massage!! Even after I had been away for 2-3 months - just one yell of "MACHA!!" & she was running towards me SOOOO EXCITED!!!
When I'd return to Rivas (I normally come every 90 days or so for a Visa Run from Costa Rica & stay anywhere from 1 day to 6 weeks), I enter the North/East corner of the park (coming from Hospedaje Hilmar where I stay at just $5.50/night for a private room with shared bathroom & shared kitchen - just behind the church) or even 1/2 way down the side of the church street & start calling her name - "MACHA" & in a split second - if she's around (she seems to mainly be around this last trip only from around 4-5pm till the evening) she was running towards me wagging her tail flapping all over & going in circles & she'd jumped up & talking to me SOOOO LOUD - SOOOO EXCITED to see me & give me some love!!
THE PROBLEM:
She's had a VERY HARD life on the streets. A couple vets have estimated her to be around 6-8 years old & she's already had 2 litters of puppies I believe. But she still has a SWEET disposition!!!
When I first met her in June '15 she had a BIG "something" growing out of her back side = http://SarongGoddess.com/organize/Nicaragua1a/Rivas1/MachaRivasNicaragua/i-RhJjH86
I've had 2 vets say what she has going on NOW is a horribly swollen gland that just needs to be cut open, scrapped & sown back up.
I've had 3 other vets say she has a TVT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor - a sexually transmitted tumor) growing out of her vagina & she needed chemotherapy, plus get all the examinations & shots a dog needs AND she NEEDS to get fixed!! Things I don't have the $$ for/
When I was there in December '15 for a day, SOMEONE (I couldn't find out whom) did some type of surgery on her about 1-2 weeks ago so it was still swollen = http://SarongGoddess.com/Nicaragua1a/Rivas1/MachaRivasNicaragua/i-5BnpG8h
I was just there in February & she was WAYYYY MORE swollen before & it seemed to be in a different area than last June & WAY WORSE including bleeding (I don't know if she's fixed as it could have been her period??) = http://SarongGoddess.com/organize/Nicaragua1a/Rivas1/MachaRivasNicaragua/i-rX7kCcw
I have my FAV Vet in Costa Rica (only going by pictures) - Dr. Anna Herndon in Santa Ana - http://LivingLifeInCostaRica.blogspot.com/2011/02/english-speaking-veterinarian-dr-anna.html - said whatever it is, it's probably VERY PAINFUL for her but it's not life threatening.
SCENARIOS:
She said she would be willing to do the surgery back in Costa Rica (if I could get her there) - just for the cost of supplies (I'll need to do a CrowdFunding to raise $$ for all those charges since I don't have any $$) & she can keep her for a week but if we do that I'll need to find her at least a temporary Foster Home while she heals - though I'd MUCH rather find her a Forever Family to help nurse her back to health & make her part of their family.
If I go that way, I'd have to find someone to drive her (ultimately in a cage since she's bleeding) from Rivas to Santa Ana, Costa Rica (just West of San Jose) (I'll have gotten the papers) & I'd ultimately for it to be at a time when A) I can be in Rivas to help catch her since she knows me (when I tried putting tick medicine on her last week she ran from me & I tried chasing her for a couple blocks so she didn't get any on). & B) when she comes to CR - that it's at a time I can be in town to give her some love & support (for SURE I'll be there March 20-April 8 & possibly 1-2 weeks before). I will be coming to spend a couple/few weeks for sure BY mid-May.
I'd love to before find her a FOREVER FAMILY (ULTIMATELY in Escazu or possibly Santa Ana as Escazu is my base (unfortunately I can't take her as I don't have a "home" as I travel around Costa Rica & Nicaragua doing Pet Sitting & House Sitting) & I'd LOVE to be able to visit her & come give her love & walks when I'm in town. One that ideally has no other pets - at least at first (she's not so great with other dogs [not fighting but she does NOT like it if someone wants her bone]) - just people at home that are willing to give her all the love that she DESERVES (ultimately kids that can really play with her & walk her a couple times a day) & a BIG well enclosed yard since she's not used to be cooped up & someone that can feed her well with raw meat & things as she does NOT like dry crunchies (I use to walk around town each morning for 6 weeks giving dry dog food to the street dogs - but most would not eat it as I think they're used to human scraps so each day I'd go to the carniceria•butcher & just get some inexpensive raw meat & bones & feed her that. She always ate from my hand very gracefully. She's just such a gentle girl!!! I'd LOVE to find her a family that will spoil her with good healthy food as trust me, she does NOT like the kibble dry food!!!)
YOUR THOUGHTS ON FINDING A STREET DOG A FOREVER FAMILY?
I've asked a few vets what they'd do - let her stay on the streets - that she knows - or find her a new home & most said keep her on the streets. I ask non-professionals & of course they all say find her a good family so I'd appreciate y'alls thoughts - knowing what a free bird I am.
IF I go the route to find her a new family, I would be VERY PICKY in it as I REALLY want someone that would be for HER highest good & ultimately so I could stay in her life at least a bit - ultimately in Costa Rica)!!!
I KNOW she will give it back to you a thousand fold!!
HOW TO PAY FOR IT:
When it's time to find her a new family I'm going to set up a CrowdFunding campaign to help offset the costs to bring her to CR & for her treatment & anything that is raised over that amount will go directly to Anna's clinic - Veterinaria Santa Ana - as she does AWESOME work helping all sorts of animals including the many that people just drop off at her doorstep. If you need an AWESOME LOVING CARING Vet to take care of your fur babies, PLEASE contact Anna Herndon with

MY DREAM FOR HER - #1 - to get her all healed & I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to find her a SPECIAL Forever Family that would LOVE HER & walk•run her & play with her & give her massages!!
THANX for considering helping!!!
