VICKI SKINNER’S COMPILATION OF QUOTES FOR ONE’S PASSING AWAY
http://www.SarongGoddess.com/Quotes-Grief

Here I have started compiling some quotes & below that - images with quotes•words to help with Death • Grief • Passing Away • Transition • Condolences • Loss • Sympathy - in hopes that they can bring a little peace to those that read them, or to share to help bring a little comfort to someone that’s lost someone dear to them.

Figuring out what to say during a Funeral or Celebration of their loved ones life ceremony can be very challenging so perhaps some of these quotes can help.

WHAT INSPIRED ME TO CREATE THIS LIST:
What inspired me to do this is I have lost 44 people CLOSE to me in my 60 years starting with my Daddy when I was just 6 years old. Most people’s immediate response is “How sad” - but because of these life altering events, it has helped me VALUE EVERY precious day I have on this planet this time around - & I’m able to see every “loss” as a “Blessing” - for them because they have returned “home” to an AMAZING place where ALL is “good” & for ME - because I have another “Angels•Spirits” watching “over” me. I KNOW it’s what has helped me to NEVER feel “lonely” - even though I’ve been “single” most of my life. And in challenging times - I KNOW I have these Spirits protecting me. Some of their “energy” I can “feel” (I’ve even had psychics I didn’t know describe my Daddy & that he was where I “feel” him at) - others I just “knew” they were there for me.

QUOTES:

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me
When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye,
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for,
So much yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.

If I could re-live yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,
He said "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you."
Today for life on earth is past,
But here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same day
There's no longing for the past.

But you have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things,
You knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you take my hand
And share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

HOPI PRAYER of The Soul's Graduation:
DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE & WEEP

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there.
I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain

When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I did not die.

My Spirit is still alive…

DON'T CRY BECAUSE ITS OVER, SMILE BECAUSE IT HAPPENED.
And if I go while you remain,
know that I live on -
dancing to a different measure behind a thin veal you cannot see through.
You will not see me so you must have faith.
I long for the day when we can soar together again,
both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to the fullest
& when you feel you need me -
just whisper my name -
I will be there!

When I come to the end of the road,
and the sun has set on me.
I want no right in a gloom-filled room -
Why cry for a soul set-free?
Miss me a little, but no too long,
& not with your heads bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me, but Let Me Go!
For this is a journey we all must take,
& each must go alone.
It’s all a part of the master plan,
a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely & sick at heart,
go to the friends we know
& bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me, But Let Me Go!

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.
When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance & support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand.

What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered & it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON,
it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (any way); and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life!!!

IF I HAD KNOWN
If I had known, would I have given my heart to you?
Would I have turned and walked away or would I have stayed and faced the pain?
If I had known that was the day
I would have held you a little closer
I would have kissed you a little harder
I would have smelled you a little deeper
I would have looked into your eyes
And speak of love that never ends
Of joy and pain
Of laughter and tears
Of endless days under the sun
Of wind and rain and stars above
If I had known that was the day
I would have laid right by your side
And speak of days that we had spent
Sharing a love that was so great
And how our souls were meant to be
So close together in eternity
If I had known that was the day
I would have snuck more food in your plate
I would have played
The choo-choo train
With the kind of joy that never ends
If I had known that was the day
I would have smelled the grass with you
I would have gotten down on my knees
And see the world just like you did
If I had known what was to be
I would have loved you just like I did
Because the honor of knowing you
Is worth the pain that now I feel

SURFER AT A PADDLE OUT:
Did the mist come from a passing swell or the tears that fill my eyes?
The open arms of heaven chose to hug one from the sea
A soul connected, hands that served to set the captives free
As hearts are troubled here on earth and just can't find the beat
We know a brother sits right now at our Loving Savior's feet
When will peace replace the storm that quickly came our way?
Will joy be ever felt again or is heartache here to stay?
When all the right things added up somehow end all wrong
And now with 5 strings on my axe, I try to play this song...
Somehow, Some way time will pass but probably not today
Some time I'll stop thinking of what I should or shouldn't say
I paddle harder than before with fire in my heart
Do I bail or try to ride the wave that tore things apart
As momentum pushes me atop this life's largest swell
It seems I came from Heaven yet accelerate towards Hell
Somehow in the midst of this a vision comes my way
There's NEVER been a tube we've seen like the one Tom rides today!!!

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly & pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug & kiss & call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action & word, so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time -
I could spare an extra minute to stop & say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day,
Well, I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away
for surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight,
& we always get a second chance to make everything just right.
There will l always be another day to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
& today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you & I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone -
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow - why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes - you'll surely regret the day
that you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
& you were too busy to grant someone what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
& whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
& that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry," "Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."

And if tomorrow never comes - you'll have no regrets about today.
(shared by Pat Bliss before her transition)

When I die -
when my coffin is being taken out,
you must never think i am missing this world.

Don't shed any tears.
Don't lament or feel sorry.
I'm not falling into a monster's abyss.

When you see my corpse is being carried,
don't cry for my leaving.
I'm not leaving - I'm arriving at eternal love!

When you leave me in the grave - don't say goodbye.
Remember a grave is only a curtain for the paradise behind.

You'll only see me descending into a grave.
Now watch me rise!

How can there be an end when the sun sets or the moon goes down?

It looks like the end, it seems like a sunset,
but in reality it is a dawn when the grave locks you up that is when your soul is freed!

Have you ever seen a seed fallen to earth not rise with a new life?
Why should you doubt the rise of a seed named human?

Have you ever seen a bucket lowered into a well coming back empty?
Why lament for a soul when it can come back like Joseph from the well?

When for the last time you close your mouth,
your words and soul will belong to the world of
no place no time

TOMORROW
Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on _______________
Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner, yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir," "______________ died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.
I used to read this poem and and sat to myself, "Thank God I tell the people in my life I love them all the time so this will never happen to me." I guess I didn't do it as much as I thought because it just happened. I'll miss you ______________.

Now that I've come to the end of my road & the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room -
Why cry for a soul that is free?
Miss me a little but not too long & not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me ... but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take & each must go alone.
It's a part of the Master's plan - a step on the road to home.

The Teaching of Tecumseh
(this is a nice "ceremony"/gesture to do at a service or just with the family any time to remember those that have crossed over)

Four Candles for You

The first candle represents our grief.
The pain of losing you is intense.
It reminds us of the depth of our love for you.

This second candle represents our courage.
To confront our sorrow,
To comfort each other,
To change our lives.

This third candle we light in your memory.
For the times we laughed,
The times we cried,
The times we were angry with each other,
The silly things you did,
The caring and joy you gave us.

This fourth candle we light for our love.
We light this candle that your light will always shine.
As we share this night of remembrance with our family and friends.

Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet :
ON DEATH
Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."

And he said:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.

If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the sheered not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountaintop, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

ATTITUDE TOWARDS DEATH

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about his religion.
Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.
Seek to make your life long and of service to your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, or even a stranger, if in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people, but grovel to none.
When you rise in the morning, give thanks for the light, for your life, for your strength.
Give thanks for your food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason to give thanks, the fault lies in yourself.
Touch not the poisonous firewater that makes wise ones turn to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death,
so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.

Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

I'M GLAD YOU'RE IN MY DASH
http://s224403325.onlinehome.us/DashPoemMovie

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning...to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth & spoke the following date with tears but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years (1933 - 1998) for that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own; the cars...the house...the cash, what matters is how we live & love & how we spend our dash.
So think about this long & hard...
Are there things you'd like to change for you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true & real, & always try to understand the way other people feel
Be less quick to anger, & show appreciation more & love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect & more often wear a smile..
Remembering that this special dash & might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?
If you have received this, it means that you are truly special to the one that sent this to you.
I am glad that you're in my life & part of my dash.

I WISH YOU ENOUGH.

Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter's departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said:

"I love you and I wish you enough."

The daughter replied, "Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom." They kissed and the daughter left.

The mother walked over to the window where I sat. Standing there, I could see she wanted and needed to cry.

I tried not to intrude on her privacy but she welcomed me in by asking, "Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?" "Yes, I have," I replied. "Forgive me for asking but why is this a forever good-bye?"

"I am old and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is the next trip back will be for my funeral," she said.

When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, "I wish you enough." May I ask what that means?"

She began to smile. "That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone." She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled even more.

"When we said 'I wish you enough' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them". Then turning toward me, she shared the following, reciting it from memory,

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.

I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.

I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye."

She then began to cry and walked away.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person. An hour to appreciate them. A day to love them. And an entire life to forget them.

PETS:

http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

One bad day, while crossing the street, a car hit a girl who lost her life on the scene. She was just 5 years old, she completed exactly the day of the accident.
20 minutes later, a police representative showed up to his parents doorstep, reporting on the misfortune.
The girl's mother remained traumatized and without reaction... no greater pain on Earth.
Since the girl's death, years... she couldn't sleep hardly anything, dreaming of her constantly and crying to pass out. One day, sleeping, he dreamed of an angel who said:
′′ Stop crying!"
Listening to this, mom asked:
′′ I can talk to her or see her once?"
The angel answers:
′′ Do you want to see her? .. He takes her hand and goes up to heaven.."
Made it to heaven.. a wide door opened, where thousands of children were with candles in hand, formed an entire path.
Watching this, mom asks the angel:
′′ Who are they?"
And the angel answers:
They are the children who reach heaven daily
Immediately the mother asks.
Is my daughter among them?
And the angel answers:
Look closely, what's at a distance..
A boy was running.. streaming for joy as if he knew his mother after decades..
Watching, Mom is encouraged every moment.. but in a few seconds she falls on her knees and flies in tears again..
Her daughter was the only one who didn't have a candle lit and her face wasn't lit either.
But the little girl was getting closer and hugging her mother like for the last time!
′′ My son, why are you the only one without candle lit ", asks the mother in tears..
And the daughter says:
Mom, please.. stop crying! Look, I light my candle every night, just like the other kids.. but your tears, they make the candle go out
That's why my candle is out most of the time and I'm forced to always be in the dark.
Don't cry all the time for a loved one, whether it's daddy, brother, husband or son. Let it rest in peace, don't keep torturing your life because it won't come back, regardless of what happens.
Instead, you can keep that person's memory alive, remembering him lovingly and smiling in his memory.
It's a sad story, but I hope you learn something from it..
Don't scroll down without commenting ′′ Amen ′′ and share in 3 groups! History must bring back memories in the soul of everyone who lost a loved one!
Don't stop reading I know if it was God I told you.
God:
Glad to see my kids today
Satan:
What kids
God:
The one who is reading
Satan:
The one who is reading is mine too
God:
Let's see where the kids belong.
Satan:
Ok well mine is going to move around doing nothing.
God:
My will write, Amen!! and share in 3 groups on facebook.

  • It's a REALLY TOUGH call!!! I lost my brother who was WAYYY more like a son to me (to the point that I was attending Compassionate Friends meetings for parents that have lost kids) & I had one of my closest friends living below me & I didn't even see her for a couple months because it brought up her mortality issues & she didn't know what to do & I was always being the strong one for everyone else so I didn't share MY needs when I SOOOO NEEDED her to talk to me about him. EVERYONE is different in the way they grieve (though sadly it's more like how they do NOT grieve!!)
